ABOUT SHINA AND MICHAEL’S WEDDING…

We wanted something romantic and whimsical with lots of florals. We really like the idea of rose gardens. So we used a lot of soft warm colors with touches of gold on our wedding day. The wedding planning was stressful, I had a lot of ideas for projects I wanted to DIY. However, I did not have very much time. I had to pick and choose which projects were the most important to me. I did a lot of the crafting and my husband was getting in touch with all our vendors and setting up appointments.

Most of the wedding decor was made by me. I took Deco-Clay craft lessons a few months before the wedding because I wanted to do my own flowers. The benefit of doing clay flowers is that they last forever and are unique! I made all of the table centerpieces, bouquets, and boutonnieres out of clay. I also made and arranged the clay flowers for each wedding favor. All of the signage, corn hole games, photo booth props, paper heart garlands, and fresh floral crowns for the girls in the wedding party were also hand made by me. I was working on projects up to the last few hours before the wedding! The biggest project though was the photo backdrops. Both were made out of large wood panels screwed to a wooden frame and hand painted. It took us about 2 weeks to complete both backdrops!

The best decision we made though was doing as much as we could by ourselves. It cut costs so that we could splurge on food and photography; which we decided early on were the most important things. The DIY stuff helped make our wedding day very personal and unique!

The advice we would give to future couples would be to start planning as soon as possible and try to enjoy the process. Your wedding day is short and flies by but what you remember most is all of the work that you put into it. Also, get your fiancé involved! Give him projects to do on his own. It’s as much his day as it is yours!
