Being a huge lover of both dogs and colour, I just couldn’t resist sharing today’s wedding with you. Inspired by the work of two of their favourite dog rescue charities, brides Jen & Jen, decided to share an insight in to their lives together by sharing one of the things they love the most, (besides each other of course!) with their guests. Can you guess what it is? You got it, their dogs!
“Anyone who knows us knows that we love 2 things, each other and our dogs (we have 3)! Although they were not a part of our big day we wanted to make sure to make the dog rescue organizations a focal point. We worked with 2 rescue organizations (one where we rescued one of our dog-For the Love of Labs and a second where we regularly donate because of their good work, Noah’s Ark and Rescue Project Sanctuary) and obtained stories/photos of dogs for adoption in the area. We then incorporated them into the escort card table (all of the escort cards were shaped like different dogs). Then each table had photos of the rescue dogs. Besides adding that pop of color we were looking for it also was good advertisement for the 2 rescue groups that do such good work. Reading the stories and organizing all of the cards and photos was one of our favorite pre-wedding projects.” They both began.
“One of the best parts of having a non-traditional wedding is getting to make everything personalized and unique. People responded so well to everything that we did so all of the hard work was definitely worth it!” They added.
“One of our favorite details from the wedding were the flowers! All of our flowers were handmade out of paper and were beautiful. We’ve seen so many brides running around at the end of their big day trying to SAVE THE FLOWERS! and we always thought it was so sad knowing that by the time they got back from their honeymoon they would be gone. The best part about paper flowers is that we’ll have them forever. Initially we thought we might take some classes and make the flowers ourselves but we just aren’t the DIY type, luckily we are gifted at finding the right people for the right job.” They explained.
“We also have MANY “nieces and nephews” by choice as many of our best friends have the cutest kids around. Since flower girls and ring bearers seemed a little too traditional for us we decided to make them Bubble Kids! They proceeded us down the aisle blowing bubbles from light-up bubble guns and were so precious.I can’t believe all 6 of them actually made it down the aisle Plus those bubble guns came in handy on the dance floor later!”
“When having a same sex wedding the very first question you get is “are you both wearing dresses?!” Well anyone who knows Jen, knows that would not be her but that didn’t stop her from stealing the show. She had her suit custom made by a very special designer, who was able to make her vision of the bridal suit with a rainbow touch come to life and it was perfect.” They added.
“Then we have the colors…the entire wedding was colorful. What goes better with a gay wedding than a rainbow theme? All of the bridesmaids were assigned a different accent color and we bought them vans in their assigned color. We made sure to include color everywhere we could, from the napkins to the cake, to the lanterns in the tent. We also had everyone throw colorful confetti as we walked down the aisle which is by far my favorite photo from the day.”
“One of the coolest parts of our ceremony was the wine box ceremony; Jen and I wrote letters to each other to read on our 5 year anniversary, we put our own twist on it and also asked our immediate family and bridal party to write us letters prior to the big day. All of the letters were locked in a hand carved box and will be opened on our anniversary in 2021, if we can wait that long!” They laughed.
“Lastly, We chose Tiny Dancer by Elton John as our Father/Daughter dance song. Half way through the song we invited all of the other father/daughters, mother/sons, etc to join us on the dance floor. I remember looking around the dance floor and seeing so much love from everyone…there were whole families embracing each other, parents holding their young children, our mom’s were dancing with our brothers. It was such a special way to include almost everyone at the wedding. Definitely a highlight of the day.”
